Government programs, health insurance and medical care, made accessible

The Foundation’s office at the Healthcare Center is staffed by Blanca Bishop, a bilingual counselor. Many people in the Town face hurdles such as financial difficulties, immigration status, learning a language, adjusting to life in a new country far from family and friends, getting access to insurance or timely medical treatment.

Blanca is a shining example of our mission in action. Every day, her work includes:

  • ensuring that all patients have timely access to medical care regardless of their ability to pay

  • assisting those who qualify for Medicaid, Medicare, Affordable Care Act insurance and other county and state health insurance programs to fill out the paperwork

  • deciphering invoices received from various hospitals for services

  • helping patients complete applications for reductions to invoices wherever possible

I have witnessed the resilience of people facing a wide range of challenges.
