Gerard M. Turino, MD

In 1983, Dr. Turino was Professor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons when he was appointed chairman of the newly merged St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Department of Medicine. After his chairmanship he became the Founding Director of the James P. Mara Center for Lung Disease at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital.
He has served as president of the New York Heart Association, the American Thoracic Society and as founding chairman of the COPD Foundation. He was a J. Burns Amberson Lecturer and received the Edward Livingston Trudeau Medal for Research, Teaching and Clinical Care from the American Thoracic Society. Throughout his career he has served as a consultant to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
In addition to serving as trustee, Dr. Turino is a member of the East Hampton Healthcare Foundation’s Nominating Committee.
